Spooky Karaoke Round Two: 4 Halloween Songs From Drink & Draw

Spooky Karaoke came back for round two. If you missed the first one, the Oct 8 Spooky Karaoke setlist is the night I discovered every button on my stream deck. This time, on Thursday, October 15, I stuck to four songs, finished my wine, and turned a quick round of song picking with my co-host Erdwick into its own little game show.

Spooky, Classics IV

Right before this one, Erdwick brought up a different song and it completely scrambled the melody in my head, so I took a second to reset. Then came a short round of "they can't hear you," "yes they can," "I unmuted it!" Totally normal professional stuff. For the record, when people pay me to perform, I don't do this on stage.

Once we got going, it was the perfect warm-up: very bluesy, very jazzy, very chill. The original has about a minute and a half of instrumental outro, so we faded it out. We're professionals.

Werewolves of London, Warren Zevon

Next up was the song Erdwick got mixed up with another one earlier, and as soon as he said it, I got exactly why. Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" is basically this song with different instrumentals, mashed up with "Sweet Home Alabama." A quick live Google confirmed it's a licensed interpolation. Basically photo bashing for music.

Also, somewhere in there I offered to start a band called Funky Phil if a certain chatter wants to bankroll it. He just has to show up to every show in a suit, a fedora, and a big cigar. I was joking. Mostly.

Spiderwebs, No Doubt

For this pick I played Erdwick short clips of my next options, muted for chat, so everyone watching just saw two people nodding at nothing. Out of every song left on my list, Spiderwebs was the only one he recognized, so it won.

It also brought back my Rock Band years. I was the friend people called in to 100% the vocals and drums on their completionist runs, so trust me, I know this one.

Horror Movie, Skyhooks

We looked at the clock, realized it was the last song of the night, and I swapped my pick to this one. My promise to chat: if you don't know this song, you will after tonight.

Skyhooks released it in Australia in 1974, and it's a glam rock romp about the scariest show on TV being the evening news. A killer closer for a spooky set.
