Rayearth Remade: Magic Knight Rayearth Returns October 7
Three girls, one collapsing fantasy world, and thirty-plus years of magical-girl-meets-mecha feelings walk into 2026.
The new *Magic Knight Rayearth* anime premieres October 7, 2026. Anime News Network coverage of the Anime Expo trailer confirms the date and expands the cast beyond the already announced leads. In Japan, it is slated for TV Asahi’s “IMAnimation W” block on Wednesdays at 11:45 p.m. Crunchyroll has been part of the international conversation around the reboot’s availability as it airs (check Crunchyroll’s latest news posts for your region’s exact streaming cadence and dub plans).
Cast sparks (so far)
Leads previously announced include Ayane Sakura as Hikaru Shidō, Rumi Ōkubo as Umi Ryūzaki, and Rie Takahashi as Fū Hōōji, with additional roles such as Saori Hayami (Emeraude), Yūki Ono (Zagato), and Mika Kikuchi (Mokona). The July trailer added Yūki Kaji as Clef, Emiri Katō as Presea, and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Ferio.
Staff snapshot
Yui Miura makes a series directorial debut, with series scripts by Shigeru Murakoshi, character designs by Satomi Watabe, and music by Yuki Kajiura, Takumi Ozawa, and Shiho Terada. E&H production is producing the anime; UNLIMITED PRODUCE by TMS is producing the project. Creative producer credit includes Sunghoo Park. That is a stacked craft table for a remake that has to satisfy both 1990s hearts and 2020s eyes.
The story you remember (or are about to meet)
CLAMP’s manga (serialized in *Nakayoshi*, 1993 to 1996) follows Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu, high schoolers transported from a Tokyo Tower field trip into Cephiro. Mage Clef explains that Princess Emeraude’s captivity is killing the world she sustains with her prayers. The girls become Magic Knights and have to learn cooperation under pressure. Earlier anime adaptations aired in the mid-1990s, with later home-video licensing history in North America through Media Blasters and Discotek.
Art Life take
Remakes are risky because nostalgia is a jealous curator. I am here for the costume redesigns, the Rune God mechanics, and the question every remake asks out loud: what does this world look like when today’s animation pipelines chase yesterday’s wonder? October 7, we find out together.
