Spooky Karaoke Setlist: 6 Halloween Songs From Drink & Draw

On Thursday, October 8, I spent the first half of Drink & Draw making horror art and talking way too much about Final Destination, Junji Ito, and why high tension springs and giant magnets are legitimately terrifying. Then we hit intermission, the retro commercials rolled, and when we came back the purple brick wall got its hot pink Karaoke sign and I got a microphone. Bad idea? Great idea. Here's the full Spooky Karaoke setlist, all six songs, in order. Monster Mash, Bobby "Boris" Pickett I opened with what is probably everybody's least favorite Halloween song, because nobody could escape it as a kid. I love it anyway. It's a nice little warm-up because I don't have to take it seriously. Fun fact I dropped right after: Dracula's son is named Alucard, which is Dracula backwards. Chat confirmed. Also, for the record, my name is not Boris. Ghostbusters, Ray Parker Jr. My co-host Erdwick guessed Ghostbusters was the least favorite Halloween song, which, how dare you. It's a classic. So I sang it next, purely out of spite. Then I hit the "bustin' makes me feel good" line and he looked at me like he could not believe I just said that. It's the lyric! I spent the whole second half of the song trying not to lose it. Somebody said it brought back Blockbuster vibes, which is fair. Spooky Scary Skeletons, Andrew Gold The Halloween anthem the internet adopted. This is the one where I discovered every button on my stream setup at once: lasers, fireworks, the camera zooming in and out. I was hitting too many buttons and I knew it. Thankfully I didn't mess up until right at the very end. Is this what being a club DJ feels like? Because it was neat. Dead Man's Party, Oingo Boingo The goal for this one: get through it without pushing every button. A party where no one's alive is extremely on brand for October, and Oingo Boingo brought the goods. Rodney Dangerfield got a shout-out afterward too, because if you know Back to School, you know. Hell's Comin' With Me, Poor Man's Poison The last couple of songs weren't technically Halloween songs. They just have the vibe. This one is a bluegrassy, bluesy tale of a drifter coming back to burn the town down, and the music video is pretty cool too. It's not a radio staple, and that's half the fun. I like introducing folks to stuff. Erdwick called it ahead of time and said he knew I'd crush it, which honestly made it harder. That song slaps. People Are Strange, The Doors The closer is a well-known one. The Doors wrote it, but my heart belongs to the Echo & the Bunnymen cover on The Lost Boys soundtrack, which I'm pretty sure I wore out. I ended the night with exactly one plan: go rewatch The Lost Boys.
