Palace Palette: The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 Arrives October 2

Some anime seasons are vibes. *The Apothecary Diaries* is vibes plus deduction plus the most stylish palace side-eye on television. Season 3 debuts on October 2, 2026, at 11:00 p.m. in Japan (10:00 a.m. EDT) in Nippon TV’s “Friday Anime Night” block for its first cour, with the second cour set for April 2027, according to Anime News Network. Crunchyroll has streamed prior seasons as they aired and is the platform to watch for Season 3 availability in your region (Crunchyroll premiere coverage). Theme songs and a new face TOHO animation’s second Season 3 trailer, per ANN, confirms Eve on the ending theme *AIYOU* and yorushika on the opening theme *Kumo o Nukekazashimo e Watashidake* (I Am Alone, Breaking Through the Clouds Downwind). Reina Ueda joins the cast as Bai Niangniang, described as a pale and mysterious nymph. Franchise side notes in the same report: a new-story film, *The Apothecary Diaries: The Deceased Empress’ Treasure*, opens December 11, and a live-action series is slated for Amazon Prime Video worldwide in 2028. What the story is (for new readers) Hyuganatsu’s novel (illustrations by Touko Shino) follows Maomao, raised by an apothecary father, kidnapped into the rear palace, and pulled into poison-tasting and court mysteries after catching the eye of the perceptive eunuch Jinshi. The franchise now spans novels, multiple manga adaptations, two prior anime seasons (2023 and 2025), and more spinning out in film and live action. Season 3 is not starting from zero, but the palace’s visual codes are friendly to newcomers who like watching systems as much as characters. Why palace anime belongs on an art blog Because *The Apothecary Diaries* understands visual storytelling as social code: who wears what, who stands where, which pigment on a robe signals danger before anyone says a word. Maomao reads toxins. Viewers read color. That is a community skill. If Seasons 1 and 2 hooked you on Jinshi-and-Maomao tension (and the found-family weirdness of rear-palace life), Season 3 is the next chapter of that long-form painting. October 2, clear a little evening space. Bring tea. Optional: pretend it is medicinal. Primary sources: Anime News Network, Crunchyroll News
