Art World Weekly Digest — Late September 2026

Hey friends — Fall art season is doing the most right now, so heres a quick roundup of stuff worth knowing if you care about illustration, museums, auctions, or just “wait, that happened??” A museum for storytellers just opened in LA Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, Exposition Park, Los Angeles. Photo: Hufton+Crow / Courtesy Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art (https://lucasmuseum.org/) opened to the public on September 22 in Exposition Park. Founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, it’s built around visual storytelling — illustration, comics, cinema, murals, the whole pictures that tell a story” lineage. The building (Ma Yansong / MAD) looks like it beamed in from a cooler timeline. As someone who lives in narrative art land… yeah. This one’s personal. Worth celebrating and paying attention to. Florence is showing art that got broken on purpose (and not) Installation view of Broken at Palazzo Strozzi, Florence. Photo: Ela Bialkowska, OKNO Studio. Via The Art Newspaper. Palazzo Strozzi’s Broken opened September 25 — a collab with the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. Damaged, fragmented, and repaired works across 4,500 years (yes, really). It heads to the NGA in spring 2027. Beautiful, slightly unhinged premise. I’m into it.
